The joint project "SpheroFilt" is part of the BMBF funding measure "KMU-innovativ" in the application area "Sustainable Water Management". Within the research project SpheroFilt a device for the mechanical removal of particulate solids from water via an innovative separation process was developed. In this novel separation process, glass beads of different grain sizes are used as filter media, which, placed in annular filter chambers, filter solids suspended in the water according to the filter maxim from coarse to fine with defined separation efficiency. For the first time, glass beads are used for surface filtration, and their advantages of easy backwashability also come into play in surface filtration.
